Symphonies of Hope– Choirs of Faith
| In La Fama of Monterrey, Mexico (March of 2008) we made a decision to build a beginner violin for each child. Every young violinist cut each piece of wood and carefully sanded it according to patterns that we had created. After staining the assembled violin one of the fathers helped with the varnishing. After 2 months of work we had completed construction of 12 violins—each complete with an inscribed verse inside chosen by the child. We only had about 2 weeks to begin teaching the young people of La Fama how to play the violin. Would they continue gathering and practicing? |

We were able to visit them in August of 2009 and were able to bring new instruments for the violinists that had continued. One of the mothers of the students took great interest in this little group and has encouraged the children to gather week after week. As months passed, this gathering of beginning violinists captured the attention of one of the best violinists in Monterrey—Luis Manuel. Damaris & Melissa are the only students still receiving classes from him. It proved to be too much of a journey into the center of Monterrey for the others. In June 2010 we were again able to visit La Fama. Sadly we found that several of our friends had moved away to other communities. Cesar and Alejandro are no longer living in La Fama and participating in the group. It is uncertain whether Carlos, Victor, and Alexis will continue. Damaris and Melissa have advanced to a high level of proficiency in the violin and are willing to help the other children there. There are two new young members just beginning in July. Time will tell whether or not others will join. La Fama was our very first group and we are still learning . May God protect and encourage the little group in La Fama and bring them blessings in the future… |
